“The 340B program is one of the most important affordability mechanisms in American pharmacy. For a SEMRHI patient on HIV therapy, the difference between filling at a chain and filling at Fairview can be thousands of dollars a month. We are honored to be SEMRHI's contract pharmacy partner. If you are a SEMRHI patient and you have not been told about 340B at your pharmacy, ask us.”

Common Questions
340B questions, answered plainly.
What is the 340B program?
340B is a federal drug pricing program that allows specific safety net healthcare providers (like Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative) to purchase outpatient drugs at significantly reduced prices, then pass those savings to their eligible patients. Fairview Pharmacy is contracted with SEMRHI as a 340B contract pharmacy, which means we dispense those drugs to SEMRHI patients at the 340B price.
Am I eligible if I'm a SEMRHI patient?
Eligibility requires that you (1) have received a qualifying healthcare service from a SEMRHI clinical provider, (2) are not a hospital inpatient at the time, (3) have the prescription written as a direct result of that SEMRHI visit, and (4) the visit was performed in a reimbursable cost center of SEMRHI. SEMRHI and Fairview verify eligibility together for each prescription. Most outpatient prescriptions written by SEMRHI providers for established patients are eligible.
What does a 340B prescription actually cost me?
Most 340B prescriptions cost $0 or a small dispense fee. The exact amount depends on the medication, your insurance status, and whether you're a self pay or commercially insured patient. We tell you the price before we dispense.
Will my private insurance still process the claim?
Yes. We coordinate billing with your insurance whenever possible. For patients with commercial insurance, the 340B program does not change how the claim runs; you simply pay the 340B price for any copay or cost share. For fully self pay patients, the 340B price replaces what would have been the cash price.
What if I'm enrolled in Medicaid?
Medicaid fee for service prescriptions are handled separately from the 340B program to avoid duplicate discounting. We follow Mississippi Medicaid policy on this. Patients on managed Medicaid plans are typically still eligible to fill 340B prescriptions. We verify at the time of fill.
Can I transfer my SEMRHI prescriptions from another pharmacy to Fairview?
Yes. Patients of SEMRHI clinics can choose their pharmacy of record. To take advantage of 340B pricing, the prescription must be a SEMRHI prescription and Fairview must be the dispensing pharmacy. We handle the transfer call. For mid cycle transfers, the 340B pricing applies to the remaining refills and any new prescriptions.
How do I become a SEMRHI patient?
Visit semrhi.com or call a SEMRHI clinic directly to schedule an appointment. SEMRHI is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving the Pine Belt region with sliding scale fees based on income. They accept Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and self pay patients.
SEMRHI patients deserve 340B prices at the counter.
