How to Transfer Your Prescription to Fairview in Three Minutes

How to move your prescriptions to Fairview in about three minutes, online or by phone.

What a transfer actually is

A prescription transfer moves your active prescription file from your current pharmacy to Fairview. Your old pharmacy sends us the prescription information, including any remaining refills. After the transfer, your refills come from Fairview instead.

You do not have to do the calling. You do not have to drive over and pick up your bottles. You do not have to wait for a paper prescription. We coordinate it on the back end while you go about your day.

The three minute version

Two ways to start.

Online

Visit fairviewpharm.com. Click Transfer Prescription. Fill in your name, date of birth, current pharmacy name and phone number, and the medications you want transferred. Submit. We take it from there. We will text or call you when the transfer is complete and ready to be filled.

By phone

Call us at the number above. Tell us you want to transfer. We ask the same information, fill it out on our end, and start the transfer. Total call time is usually under 5 minutes.

What we need from you

  • Your full name and date of birth.
  • Your phone number.
  • The name and phone number of your current pharmacy.
  • The medications you want transferred. Names if you have them, or just bring your bottles by.
  • Your insurance card if you have one. We accept the same insurance as the chains.
  • Your address if you want delivery (Hattiesburg area).

What we do on our end

We contact your current pharmacy. They send us the prescription information, including remaining refills. We enter your record into our system, run the insurance, and prepare the medications for pickup, delivery, or shipment depending on what you prefer.

Most transfers complete the same business day. Controlled substances have additional steps and may take longer in some cases.

What you do not have to do

  • You do not have to call your old pharmacy to tell them you are leaving. We notify them through the transfer.
  • You do not have to bring in physical bottles.
  • You do not have to get new prescriptions from your doctor for most medications.
  • You do not have to pay anything for the transfer. It is free.
  • You do not have to be a Hattiesburg resident. We serve patients across Mississippi.

What about controlled substances

Controlled substances have specific transfer rules under federal and state law. Schedule II medications (most opioid pain medications, ADHD stimulants, some others) generally require a new prescription rather than a traditional transfer. Schedule III through V can usually be transferred, with some limits on remaining refills. We walk through the specifics with you when you call so the process is clear.

Statewide service

Fairview fills prescriptions for residents anywhere in Mississippi. Hattiesburg. Petal. Oak Grove. Sumrall. Purvis. Lumberton. Laurel. Ellisville. Collins. Columbia. Richton. Forrest, Lamar, Jones, Perry, and Covington Counties. Central Mississippi. South Mississippi. The Pine Belt. We deliver locally, and we ship anywhere in the state for patients outside our delivery area.

What changes after the transfer

After your transfer, refills come from Fairview. We sync your refill dates so multiple medications come due on the same day when possible (medication synchronization). We answer the phone when you call. We will know your name. We work with your doctor on any refill or change request. We offer free medication reviews. And we have been doing this in Hattiesburg since 1978.

Common questions

Will my insurance cover the same medications at Fairview

In nearly all cases, yes. Independent pharmacies accept the same major insurance plans as the chains. If there is a coverage issue, we work it out with you and your prescriber before the medication is filled.

What if my doctor prefers I use a specific pharmacy

Your doctor cannot require you to use a specific pharmacy. You choose your pharmacy. We work with every prescriber in the area.

What if I want to transfer only some of my medications

Most patients move all their prescriptions to one pharmacy because it allows us to check for interactions and coordinate refills. But you can transfer just one if you prefer. Many patients start with one and move the rest later.

When to talk to a pharmacist

  • You are unsure which medications to transfer.
  • You are on a controlled substance and have questions about that specific transfer.
  • You have prior authorization requirements you want to discuss.
  • You have multiple insurance plans.
  • You want to combine the transfer with a medication review.
