What is bupropion for?
- Uses depend on the product and include depression, seasonal depression, or help stopping smoking. Confirm which treatment your prescription is for.
Are IR, SR and XL interchangeable?
- They release medicine differently and use different schedules. Do not substitute one for another yourself. SR and XL tablets must be swallowed whole.
What if I miss a dose?
- Skip it and take the next dose at its scheduled time. Do not double up or shorten the prescribed spacing between doses.
Why does dose spacing matter?
- Too much bupropion increases seizure risk. Avoid taking more than one bupropion-containing product unless your prescriber specifically directs it. Show your pharmacist every medicine, including smoking-cessation and combination products. Bupropion SR Medication Guide
When should I expect a benefit?
- Depression may take several weeks to improve. Keep follow-up appointments. Trouble sleeping, dry mouth or nausea can occur; discuss bothersome effects before changing your schedule or stopping treatment. MedlinePlus
What must my prescriber know?
- Discuss any seizure history, current or past anorexia or bulimia, and plans to stop heavy alcohol use or sedating medicines suddenly. These can make bupropion unsafe. Also mention bipolar disorder, blood pressure, MAO inhibitors, and kidney or liver problems. Follow the monitoring plan, especially if using nicotine replacement. Which symptoms need urgent help?
