What does it treat?
- Cephalexin treats certain bacterial infections. It is a cephalosporin antibiotic and does not treat viral colds or flu.
Does it need food?
- It can be taken with or without food. Follow the interval on your prescription label.
How should I store mixed liquid?
- Keep it refrigerated and discard it after 14 days. Check the discard date written by your pharmacy.
What if I have a penicillin allergy?
- Tell the prescriber and pharmacist exactly what happened and which drug caused it before taking cephalexin. The type and severity of reaction matter. How do I use liquid or handle a missed dose?
- Shake the bottle before measuring. Use the pharmacy's marked measuring device. Take a missed dose when remembered unless the next is almost due; then skip it. Do not double. Follow the full prescribed course unless your clinician changes it. MedlinePlus
What side effects need attention?
- Severe or bloody diarrhea needs prompt medical advice, even if it starts after the antibiotic course. Face or throat swelling, breathing trouble or a severe skin reaction needs emergency care.
