Taking it right
- With every meal and every snack.
- Take it as I start eating.
- Swallow capsules whole. Do not crush or chew.
If I miss a dose
- Meal already well over: skip that dose.
- Take my normal dose with the next meal or snack.
- Never double up.
Important
- Do not switch to another enzyme brand on my own.
- Creon is not interchangeable with others.
- Opening a capsule: onto soft acidic food, not milk.
Call the doctor if
- Stools still greasy, pale, or foul-smelling.
- Joint pain or a gout flare.
- Poor weight gain, especially in a child.
Emergency. Go to the ER
- A child on a higher dose with severe stomach pain
- or a swollen, bloated belly.
- Swelling of the face or throat.
Good to remember
- Gaining weight back is a sign it is working.
