Is this an asthma inhaler?
- No. These products are sprayed into the nose for nasal symptoms; do not use them as lung inhalers.
Will it work immediately?
- It is an anti-inflammatory allergy treatment. Regular use matters, and full benefit may take several days.
Are children's age limits the same?
- No. Standard OTC fluticasone propionate products may be labeled from age 4; Flonase Sensimist (furoate) is labeled from age 2. Check the exact box, not just the brand family.
How should I use it?
- Follow your product's priming directions. Gently clear your nose, tilt your head slightly forward and breathe in gently as you spray. Keep the spray out of your eyes. Have the pharmacist demonstrate placement with your bottle. Use the labeled schedule; meals are not the timing guide. MedlinePlus
What if I miss a dose?
- Use it when remembered unless the next dose is almost due; then skip it. Do not double. MedlinePlus
When should I ask for advice?
- Nasal irritation can occur. Stop and seek medical advice for frequent or severe nosebleeds, vision changes or a whistling nose; breathing difficulty or facial/throat swelling needs emergency help. MedlinePlus
- Ask before use after nasal injury/surgery or with other steroids, ritonavir or ketoconazole. For children, follow the product's duration limit and discuss ongoing need and growth with their clinician.
