Why am I urinating more?
- Furosemide is a diuretic, often called a water pill. It helps the kidneys remove salt and water to treat fluid buildup and sometimes high blood pressure.
Should I drink more water or take potassium?
- Ask for your personal fluid, salt and potassium plan. Do not start supplements or change a fluid restriction without checking with your care team.
Can I skip it when swelling improves?
- Follow your prescription. Some people use daily schedules; others have specific days or clinician-directed adjustment plans. Feeling better is not a reason to change it yourself.
What if I miss a dose?
- Take it when remembered unless the next dose is almost due; then skip it. Do not double up. Ask your pharmacist to help you follow the schedule while planning around frequent urination. MedlinePlus
Which symptoms should I report?
- Contact your clinician for unusual thirst, muscle cramps, marked weakness, dizziness or much less urine. Report vomiting or diarrhea that prevents normal intake. What tests or interactions matter?
- Keep ordered kidney-function and electrolyte tests, including potassium. Share all medicines, especially NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, lithium, other blood-pressure medicines and sucralfate.
