How much does the OTC tablet label allow?
- For 200 mg tablets, the label allows one tablet every 4–6 hours; two may be used if one is not enough. Do not exceed six tablets (1,200 mg) in 24 hours unless your clinician directs otherwise.
Can I take it with blood-pressure medicine?
- Ask first. Ibuprofen can affect blood pressure and kidney function, especially with certain blood-pressure medicines, diuretics or dehydration.
Can I take it with meloxicam or naproxen?
- Do not combine NSAIDs on your own. Check cold, flu and pain products for duplicate ingredients too.
When should I stop self-treatment?
- Use the smallest effective amount. Stop and contact a clinician if pain worsens or lasts more than ten days, or fever worsens or lasts more than three days. Food or milk may ease stomach upset but does not remove bleeding risk. As-needed doses do not need catching up. OTC ibuprofen label
Who needs a check before taking it?
- Ask first with kidney/heart disease, ulcers, bleeding, blood thinners or aspirin-sensitive asthma. Ibuprofen can interfere with aspirin's heart-protective effect; ask about an alternative or timing rather than stopping prescribed aspirin. - Avoid use at 20 weeks of pregnancy or later unless specifically directed by your clinician. FDA pregnancy warning
When is it urgent?
- Stop and seek urgent help for vomiting blood or black stools. Chest pain, stroke symptoms or severe breathing difficulty require emergency care. Report reduced urination or new swelling. MedlinePlus
