Important warning

What is it for?
- Metoprolol is a beta blocker used for blood pressure and certain heart conditions. The approved uses depend on the formulation.
Are tartrate and succinate the same?
- They deliver metoprolol differently. Tartrate is immediate release; succinate is extended release. Do not change products or schedules yourself.
What if I miss a dose?
- Skip the missed dose and take the next at the regular time. Do not take a double dose.
Do I take it with food?
- Regular tablets are taken with or right after meals. Follow the instructions for your exact extended-release product. Keep a consistent routine. Ask before splitting, opening or crushing any tablet or capsule; extended-release products have specific handling rules. MedlinePlus
What symptoms should I watch for?
- Tiredness or dizziness can occur. Get prompt advice for a very slow heartbeat with symptoms, worsening breathlessness, fainting or new swelling. Severe chest pain or breathing trouble needs emergency care. Succinate ER label, warnings and adverse reactions
What should my care team know?
