My mealtime doseYour pharmacist or doctor fills this in.

Taking it right

  • Check the label: NovoLog U-100, not a mix.
  • Inject 5 to 10 minutes before the meal. Eat promptly.
  • New needle and 2 unit prime every time.
  • Hold for the full labeled count after injecting.

Never do this

  • Never withdraw insulin from a pen.
  • Never share the pen, even with a new needle.
  • Never double or stack doses.

If I miss a dose

  • Check my glucose.
  • Use my written late meal or correction plan.
  • Do not take a full delayed dose without a plan.

Low blood sugar

  • Signs: shaking, sweating, hunger, fast heartbeat, confusion.
  • Awake and able to swallow: 15 grams fast carbohydrate, recheck in 15 minutes.
  • Cannot swallow or passed out: glucagon, side position, call 911.

Call the doctor or pharmacist if

  • Repeated lows I cannot explain.
  • Highs that stay up despite my correction plan.
  • Any wrong insulin or wrong dose error, even if I feel fine.
  • Pump problems with unexplained high glucose: check ketones, use the backup plan.

Storage

  • Unopened: refrigerate. Do not freeze.
  • Pen in use: room temperature, discard after 28 days.
  • Never leave it in the car.
