My mealtime doseYour pharmacist or doctor fills this in.
Taking it right
- Check the label: NovoLog U-100, not a mix.
- Inject 5 to 10 minutes before the meal. Eat promptly.
- New needle and 2 unit prime every time.
- Hold for the full labeled count after injecting.
Never do this
- Never withdraw insulin from a pen.
- Never share the pen, even with a new needle.
- Never double or stack doses.
If I miss a dose
- Check my glucose.
- Use my written late meal or correction plan.
- Do not take a full delayed dose without a plan.
Low blood sugar
- Signs: shaking, sweating, hunger, fast heartbeat, confusion.
- Awake and able to swallow: 15 grams fast carbohydrate, recheck in 15 minutes.
- Cannot swallow or passed out: glucagon, side position, call 911.
Call the doctor or pharmacist if
- Repeated lows I cannot explain.
- Highs that stay up despite my correction plan.
- Any wrong insulin or wrong dose error, even if I feel fine.
- Pump problems with unexplained high glucose: check ketones, use the backup plan.
Storage
- Unopened: refrigerate. Do not freeze.
- Pen in use: room temperature, discard after 28 days.
- Never leave it in the car.
