How do I take an ODT?
- With dry hands, peel back the blister foil instead of pushing through it. Put the tablet on your tongue immediately and let it dissolve; swallow with saliva.
Can I take another if nausea continues?
- Follow the prescribed interval and maximum. Contact your clinician if treatment is not working instead of adding doses.
Why ask about my heart medicines?
- Ondansetron can affect heart rhythm. Low potassium/magnesium, rhythm disorders and other medicines can increase risk.
What if I miss a scheduled dose?
- Take it when remembered unless the next dose is nearly due; then skip it. Never double. If prescribed only as needed, follow that plan rather than creating a catch-up schedule. MedlinePlus
What should I tell the pharmacist?
- Mention congenital long-QT syndrome, fainting, heart failure, liver disease and all medicines. Ondansetron must not be combined with apomorphine. An ECG or electrolyte checks may be needed for people at risk. Tell us about PKU because some ODT products contain phenylalanine. Ondansetron ODT labeling
Which symptoms need help?
- Headache and constipation can occur. Seek urgent care for fainting, chest pain or an abnormal heartbeat. Fever with confusion and muscle stiffness/twitching can signal serotonin syndrome. Severe breathing trouble or throat swelling requires emergency help. Report abdominal swelling or inability to pass stool/gas, especially after surgery. Ondansetron ODT labeling
