Taking it right
- One dose each day. Adults: any time, at least 8 hours apart.
- Children: same time every day.
- Know my pen: U-100 or U-200. The window shows actual units.
Pen steps (FlexTouch)
- New needle. Prime with 2 units.
- Dial my dose, inject, count slowly to 6 after zero.
- Rotate sites. Never share the pen or needle.
If I miss a dose
- Adults: take it when discovered if 8 hours will separate doses.
- Children: call the clinician.
- Never double. Check glucose more often.
Low blood sugar, if awake
- Shaking, sweating, hunger, dizziness, confusion.
- 15 grams of fast carbohydrate. Recheck in 15 minutes.
- Repeat if still low. Then eat if a meal is due.
Emergency. Call 911
- Unconscious or seizing: no food or drink by mouth.
- Give glucagon and place the person on their side.
- Vomiting, fruity breath, or deep breathing may be ketoacidosis.
Storage
- Unopened: refrigerator, or room temperature up to 56 days.
- In use pen or vial: discard after 56 days.
- Never freeze it or leave it in a hot car.
