Why do I need INR tests?
- They show how strongly warfarin is affecting clotting and help your team adjust treatment safely. Keep the testing schedule they give you.
Must I stop eating greens?
- No. Keep vitamin-K intake reasonably consistent rather than making sudden diet changes. Discuss changes with your anticoagulation team.
What if I miss a dose?
- Take it when remembered on the same day. If that day has passed, do not double the next dose. Tell your treating team about the missed dose.
How should I take it?
- Take it at the same time daily, with or without food. Your dose may differ by day; use the latest written schedule, not an old bottle's instructions. Do not change the dose because you feel well or see a single INR result. MedlinePlus; warfarin label
Which interactions matter?
- Check before starting or stopping medicines, including antibiotics, aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, vitamins and herbs. Even OTC products may affect bleeding or INR. Discuss alcohol use and major diet changes. Tell dentists and other clinicians you take warfarin; never stop it for a procedure without instructions. MedlinePlus
When do I need urgent help?
- Seek emergency care for uncontrolled bleeding, vomiting blood, black stools, sudden severe headache or stroke symptoms. Get prompt assessment after a significant fall or head injury, even if you feel well.
