Taking it right
- Take it at evenly spaced times, as prescribed.
- With or without food.
- Swallow the tablet whole.
How long depends on why
- Travelers' diarrhea: a few days.
- IBS-D: a 2 week course, then stop.
- Liver-related brain symptoms: every day, long term.
If I miss a dose
- Take it as soon as I remember.
- Next dose almost due: skip it.
- Never two at once.
Call the doctor if
- Diarrhea getting worse or not improving.
- Watery diarrhea with cramps during or after treatment.
- Travelers' diarrhea with a fever or blood in stool.
Emergency. Go to the ER
- Hives, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- or trouble breathing.
Good to remember
- Tell my doctor if I take warfarin.
