Switching from Walmart? $4 generics are cheap. Pharmacist counseling shouldn't be.
Walmart's $4 generic list is genuinely competitive on a narrow subset of medications. Outside that list, prices climb and the wait at the counter never gets shorter. Fairview matches or beats Walmart on most of the $4 list, beats them everywhere else, and includes the pharmacist consultation Walmart doesn't.

The Walmart Situation
Walmart Pharmacy built its reputation on the $4 generic program launched in 2006, which covers approximately 300 medications at $4 for a 30 day supply and $10 for a 90 day supply. For those specific drugs at those specific quantities, the price is competitive. The challenge for patients is that the $4 list does not include most of the medications people actually take long term: brand name medications, controlled substances, specialty drugs, and many of the generics outside the program. On those, Walmart pricing is typical retail and the in store experience involves the long lines and rushed counseling that come with operating a pharmacy inside a high traffic retail store. We carry most of the same $4 generics and match the price, and we beat Walmart on most of the medications outside the program.

We know switching feels like work. We'll thank you for the trouble. $10 toward anything in the shop, applied automatically at first pickup or first online order.
“Every week, patients walk in saying their Walmart prescription experience has gotten worse. Wait times. Mistakes. Counseling that feels rushed. We hear them. The whole point of an independent pharmacy is that you get the pharmacist on the phone and your medication on the same day. That is what we do.”

Walmart Transfer Questions
Things Walmart patients ask us every week.
Does Fairview match Walmart's $4 generic price?
On most of the medications in Walmart's $4 generics program, yes. We carry the same generic at competitive pricing. For an exact quote on your specific medication, submit it through our Price My Rx tool or call us. We will quote both your insurance copay and our cash price and you pay whichever is lower.
I take a medication outside the $4 list. What changes?
That is where the difference is largest. Walmart prices medications outside the $4 list at typical retail. Our cash pricing is independent transparency pricing, which is often substantially lower than Walmart's outside the program. We will quote you our price before you commit to switching.
Will my Walmart Pharmacy refills transfer?
Yes. Your refill history, refill dates, and authorized refills transfer with the prescription. We call Walmart on your behalf and pull everything onto your Fairview profile.
Can I still get the $4 generic pricing without a Walmart membership?
Walmart's $4 list does not require a membership. Neither does Fairview's pricing. We don't have a paid pharmacy membership tier at all. Our pricing is the price, transparent on every fill.
What about Walmart Plus pharmacy benefits?
Walmart Plus members get additional pharmacy savings on certain medications. Compare it carefully against our cash price for your specific prescription. Walmart Plus is $98 per year. Our cash price difference often covers that subscription cost within a few fills for patients on multiple medications.
I use the Walmart drive through. Do you offer that?
We don't have a drive through, but we offer free local delivery to your home or office which removes the trip entirely. For pickup, the in store walk up at Fairview is typically faster than the drive through wait at any chain.
