The real story behind this product

What chain pharmacies never explain.

Not all laxatives work the same way, and choosing the wrong type can create a cycle of dependency and worsening constipation. This is the knowledge most patients don't have when they reach for whichever product is on sale.

There are three main types of laxatives operating through completely different mechanisms. Stimulant laxatives (bisacodyl, senna) stimulate intestinal nerve endings to increase muscle contractions. Work in 6 to 12 hours, often with cramping. Can cause dependence with regular use. Bulk forming laxatives (psyllium fiber) add physical bulk to stool by absorbing water. Work in 1 to 3 days. No cramping. Recommended for long term daily use. Osmotic laxatives (polyethylene glycol) draw water into the colon through osmotic pressure, softening stool naturally. Work in 1 to 3 days. No cramping. No dependence. The colon does not adapt to or become reliant on PEG.

Polyethylene glycol 3350 is the gold standard osmotic laxative. Recommended by gastroenterologists for chronic constipation, safe for children with physician guidance, and notably used at high doses for colonoscopy prep because it is so effective at clearing the colon without systemic absorption.

Generic PEG 3350 at Fairview: $8.40. Miralax at CVS: $12 to $15. Identical molecule.

Dr. Mike's clinical commentary
PEG 3350 is my first recommendation for constipation in most adult patients, not the stimulant laxatives people often reach for first. Stimulant laxatives work fast and can become habit forming with regular use. PEG doesn't. The colon doesn't adapt to it. You can take it daily for months without the gut losing its ability to function without it. It's also completely tasteless and dissolves clear in any liquid, so mixing it in morning coffee is genuinely invisible. Drink a full extra glass of water when you take it. The osmotic mechanism works by pulling water into the colon, and being well hydrated makes the whole process more comfortable and effective.

Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

Is the generic really the same as the brand?

Yes, by FDA requirement. Generic medications must contain the same active ingredient, at the same dose, in the same form, with the same route of administration as the brand name product. The FDA's bioequivalence standard requires generics to perform within 80 to 125 percent of the brand's absorption profile. Same active ingredient is not a marketing claim. It's a regulatory fact.

How soon will my order ship?

Orders ship within 1 to 2 business days from our pharmacy in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. You'll receive a tracking number once your package leaves the pharmacy. Free shipping on orders over $50. Kit purchases skip the $50 minimum entirely.

What is your return policy?

Unopened products in their original sealed packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund. For safety reasons, opened medications are not returnable. If something arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us within 7 days and we'll make it right.

Can I take this with my prescription medications?

Many OTC gut products interact with common prescriptions, particularly thyroid medication, blood thinners, certain antibiotics, and other PPIs. We strongly recommend a free pharmacist consultation before ordering if you take any prescription medication. Call us at the pharmacy. Free consultation, no appointment.

Is this safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Gut products vary significantly in pregnancy safety. Simethicone, calcium carbonate, and psyllium fiber are generally considered safe across all trimesters. PPIs (omeprazole) and Pepto-Bismol require physician guidance during pregnancy. Loperamide and laxatives should be discussed with your OB. Before ordering during pregnancy or breastfeeding, please request a free pharmacist consultation.

One product is good. The kit is the protocol.

Dr. Mike doesn't hand patients single products. He hands them protocols. The Fairview Regularity Foundation Kit is the full version of what most people need. And it skips the $50 minimum.
