The real story behind this product

What chain pharmacies never explain.

Ibuprofen and acetaminophen (Tylenol) are often treated as interchangeable. They are not. They work through fundamentally different mechanisms, and for certain types of pain, only one of them is clinically appropriate.

Tylenol acts centrally, it blocks pain perception in the brain. It does not reduce inflammation.

Ibuprofen is an NSAID, a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug. It blocks the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes that produce prostaglandins, the chemical messengers that trigger inflammation, swelling, and the throbbing quality of pain. When pain is caused by inflammation, arthritis, menstrual cramps, muscle injuries, sprains, dental pain, back pain from a disc, ibuprofen addresses the source of the pain, not just the perception of it.

At Fairview, the same 200mg ibuprofen as Advil and Motrin costs $4.38 for 100 tablets. The reason to know this is simple: you should not pay $9 for the same molecule.

Dr. Mike's clinical commentary
Ibuprofen is my recommendation when a patient describes pain that throbs, swells, or is worse with movement, those are inflammation signals. Tylenol is for dull, steady aches and fever. The critical safety rules: always take ibuprofen with food or milk, gastric bleeding can occur without any warning pain, especially in older adults. Limit to 1,200mg per day without a physician's guidance (that's 6 tablets at 200mg each). And if you take blood thinners, have kidney disease, or have a history of stomach ulcers, ibuprofen is not for you. Call me before you order and I'll recommend the right alternative.

Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

How is this different from the brand name on the same shelf?

Generic products contain the same FDA-approved active ingredient at the same dose, in the same form, as the brand-name product. The FDA requires generic medicines to meet bioequivalence standards before approval. The main difference customers notice is the price, not the medicine.

How soon will my order ship?

Orders ship within 1 to 2 business days from our pharmacy in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. You will receive a tracking number once your package leaves the pharmacy. Free shipping on orders over $50.

What is your return policy if it doesn't work for me?

Unopened products in their original sealed packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund. For safety reasons, opened medications are not returnable. If something arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us within 7 days and we will make it right.

Can I take this with my prescription medications?

Some OTC pain products interact with common prescriptions, particularly blood thinners, blood pressure medications, and other NSAIDs. We strongly recommend a free pharmacist consultation before ordering if you take any prescription medication. Call 601-544-4871 or use the Ask the Pharmacist form on the site.

Is this safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

OTC pain products vary significantly in pregnancy safety. Acetaminophen is generally considered safe across all trimesters (consult your OB). NSAIDs including ibuprofen and aspirin should be avoided especially in the third trimester. Before ordering during pregnancy or breastfeeding, please request a free pharmacist consultation.

One product is good. The kit is the protocol.

Dr. Mike doesn't hand patients single products. He hands them protocols. The Complete Pain Relief Kit is the full version of what most people need. And it skips the $50 minimum.
