WHY THIS PAGE EXISTS
Most pain aisles are built to sell what is most visible, not always what is most sensible for the pain you actually have.
Brand names often get the best shelf placement. Generics are often harder to spot. And shoppers are left guessing whether Tylenol or ibuprofen will work for their migraine, their cramps, their knee pain, or their child's fever.
Fairview built this page differently. Every product here was selected by a pharmacist for one reason: to help you find the right tool for the right pain, at clear prices, without wasting time or money in the aisle.

Questions, answered.
What's the difference between acetaminophen and ibuprofen?
They work through completely different mechanisms. Acetaminophen acts in the brain to reduce pain perception and lower fever set-point, it does not reduce inflammation. Ibuprofen (an NSAID) blocks the COX enzymes that produce prostaglandins, the molecules that cause inflammation, swelling, and the throbbing quality of pain. For inflammatory pain (arthritis, cramps, sprains), ibuprofen addresses the source. For general pain, fever, and post-surgery relief, acetaminophen is often the safer choice.
Can I take Tylenol and ibuprofen at the same time?
Not simultaneously, but they can be safely alternated every 3 hours. They have different mechanisms and don't interact dangerously when properly spaced. See Dr. Mike's Alternating Protocol product page for the exact schedule. Always check that you aren't already taking acetaminophen in another product (DayQuil, NyQuil, prescription opioids) before adding Tylenol.
Are Fairview's generics actually the same as brand names?
Yes, by FDA requirement. Generic medications must contain the same active ingredient, at the same dose, in the same form, with the same route of administration as the brand-name product. The FDA's bioequivalence standard requires generics to perform within 80-125 percent of the brand's absorption profile. "Same active ingredient" is not a marketing claim, it's a regulatory fact.
How do I know if ibuprofen is safe for me?
Ibuprofen is not safe for everyone. Avoid if you have a history of stomach ulcers or GI bleeding, kidney disease, significant cardiovascular disease, or are taking blood thinners (warfarin, Eliquis, Xarelto). Avoid in the third trimester of pregnancy. For everyone else, always take with food. Call our pharmacist if you're unsure, free consultation, no appointment.
Is Voltaren Gel as effective as oral ibuprofen for arthritis?
For localized joint arthritis, clinical evidence shows it is comparably effective to oral ibuprofen, with significantly fewer systemic side effects because less than 10 percent of the drug is absorbed into general circulation. It is particularly advantageous for elderly patients and anyone who cannot tolerate oral NSAIDs.
My child has a high fever that Tylenol isn't controlling. What do I do?
Use the pediatric alternating protocol: alternate Children's Tylenol and Children's Ibuprofen every 3 hours. Both work through different mechanisms and together provide better fever control than either alone. Ensure the child is well-hydrated. If the fever exceeds 104°F or persists more than 3 days, call your pediatrician. Never give aspirin to anyone under 18 during a viral illness.
The $50 minimum applies to individual products. How do I get around it?
Choose any of the Complete Pain Relief Kits, they start at $28.99 and automatically exceed the minimum while saving you 15-25 percent over individual pricing. Or build an order of multiple products that together reach $50.
Do you ship outside Mississippi?
Yes. Fairview ships to all 50 states. Orders ship within 1-2 business days from our pharmacy in Hattiesburg. Free shipping on orders $50+.
