Eucerin's original formulation, developed over 100 years ago, was designed specifically for the pharmaceutical management of severely dry, compromised skin. It is not a cosmetic moisturizer. It is a therapeutic dermatological product.
The core of its formulation is a high concentration petrolatum and mineral oil occlusive base combined with lanolin alcohol, a naturally derived emollient that mimics the skin's own sebum and has exceptional penetrating ability in thickened, calloused, or severely dehydrated skin tissue.
The distinction from CeraVe: CeraVe is excellent for daily maintenance and barrier repair in mildly to moderately dry or eczema prone skin. Eucerin is formulated for severely dry, cracked, and inflamed skin, hands that bleed in winter, heels with deep fissures, skin so dry it has lost flexibility. Its heavier occlusive profile creates a more intensive barrier, holding dramatically more moisture against skin that has lost the ability to retain it on its own.
When a patient tells me their skin is so dry it cracks and bleeds, or their hands are too painful to flex fully in winter, I reach for Eucerin. It is heavier than CeraVe and absorbs more slowly. That's by design. My recommended protocol for severely dry hands: apply after every hand wash, and apply a thick layer before bed covered with cotton gloves overnight. The overnight occlusive effect is clinically significant. Most patients see meaningful improvement in 3 to 5 days.

How is this different from the brand on the same shelf?

How soon will my order ship?

What is your return policy?
Unopened products in their original sealed packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund. For safety reasons, opened skincare and wound care products are not returnable. If something arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us within 7 days and we'll make it right.
Can I use this with my prescription medications or topical Rx?
Most OTC skin and wound products are compatible with prescription topicals, but the order and timing of application matter. Is this safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Most products in this collection are safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding when used as directed on small skin surface areas. Exceptions include hydrocortisone over large areas, terbinafine (Lamisil) during pregnancy, and selenium sulfide (Selsun Blue) on the scalp.
