What Rooted in Care, Built for Everyone Actually Means

What Fairview's motto, Rooted in Care, Built for Everyone, actually means in daily practice.

Rooted in care

Rooted means anchored. Not floating. Not chasing whichever metric the corporate model is rewarding this quarter. The work has a foundation that does not change with the operating environment. The foundation is patient care, defined clinically, delivered consistently, measured by outcomes rather than volume.

Care is what pharmacists were trained to provide. Counseling. Review. Education. Time. Attention. The things that get squeezed out when the operating model rewards speed. Care is the part of pharmacy that distinguishes a pharmacist from a vending machine. It is also the part that PBM reimbursement does not pay for, which is why so much of modern pharmacy has gradually moved away from it. We make care the root because we believe it is the entire point of the work.

Rooted in care means we make decisions that protect the time and the attention. We staff for the work, not for the spreadsheet. We pay our pharmacists and technicians as professionals so they stay. We invest in services that PBMs do not pay for because patients need them. We say no to operating compromises that would push us toward the model we are trying not to be.

Built for everyone

Built for everyone means we serve the full community, not the easy parts of it.

  • The patient on Medicare with 12 medications.
  • The uninsured patient who needs to pay cash and wants to find the most affordable option.
  • The patient in a pharmacy desert two hours from Hattiesburg who relies on shipping.
  • The young mother who has questions about her toddler’s antibiotic.
  • The construction worker on metformin who works outdoors in Mississippi summers.
  • The grandmother caring for grandchildren during a long Mississippi flu season.
  • The college student picking up their first prescription on their own.
  • The patient picking up their last prescription before hospice.
  • The newcomer to Hattiesburg who needs a new pharmacy.
  • The lifelong patient whose family has been coming here since 1978.

Everyone is not a slogan. It is a commitment to keep the door open to the patients that other parts of the healthcare system push aside. The patients who are profitable for the chain pharmacies are not necessarily the patients who need the most care. We serve the ones who need the most care alongside the ones who need the least. That is what built for everyone means.

What this looks like every day

Mission statements are easy. Daily practice is the test.

Answering the phone

Patients call. We answer. That sounds basic. It has become unusual.

Counseling on every new medication

Federally required. Rarely actually done. We make sure it happens.

Free medication reviews

For anyone who wants one. No appointment. No bill. The conversation that catches problems before they become hospitalizations.

Statewide service

Mississippi patients outside the Hattiesburg area can use Fairview by phone and by shipping. The patients in counties whose local pharmacy has closed need access. We provide it.

Wellness+ for the national customer

Patients in any state can use Fairview through our online OTC line. The work is the same. Curated by a pharmacist. Selected on evidence. Sold at fair prices.

Vaccines without barriers

Most adult vaccines, no appointment, most insurance accepted. The vaccines that close some of Mississippi’s biggest preventable health gaps.

Saying no when we should

We do not sell products we do not believe in. We tell patients when a supplement is not doing what they hope. We tell patients when a doctor visit is the right next step rather than another OTC. The work is not to sell. It is to help.

What we expect from ourselves

Specific commitments we make to ourselves and to our patients.

  • Every patient gets time. The line behind them does not change that.
  • Every new medication gets counseled. No exceptions.
  • Every refill is checked against the patient’s full medication list, not just the prescription in front of us.
  • Every interaction is treated as a clinical interaction, not a retail one.
  • Every patient gets the truth. We do not sell products we would not recommend to our own family.
  • Every patient is served, regardless of ability to pay, language, age, race, insurance status, or geographic distance.
  • Every team member is supported in doing the work the way they were trained to do it.

What we expect from our community

Honest answer: not much. The relationship works because patients come, get cared for, and come back. That is the entire transaction. If we do our part well, the rest takes care of itself.

What we hope for: that patients who get cared for tell their families and neighbors. That patients who feel respected stay with us across years. That the trust that has been built since 1978 continues to be the foundation of how we operate. That Fairview remains part of the daily rhythm of Hattiesburg and the Pine Belt for the next 48 years the way it has been for the last 48.

Why this is the last article in the series

This is the closing article in the set we built to make the pharmacist’s role in healthcare more visible to patients across Mississippi and the country. The earlier articles covered conditions, medications, supplements, seasonal patterns, and patient empowerment. This one names what holds it all together. Rooted in care. Built for everyone. The standard we hold ourselves to is what makes the rest of the work possible.

If you are reading this and you have not yet visited Fairview, you are welcome here. If you are a long time patient, thank you. If you are somewhere else in Mississippi and have not been able to find the care you need at your current pharmacy, transfer to us. If you are anywhere in the country and want OTC products selected by a pharmacist instead of by marketing, shop Wellness+ online. We are here for the work. That is the whole thing.
