The real story behind this product

Why this still exists at Fairview.

Black and White Ointment has been in African American medicine cabinets since the 1920s. For over 100 years it has been the trusted solution for dark spots, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and uneven skin tone in communities where skin health is personal, cultural, and deeply meaningful.

It survived every beauty trend and dermatology breakthrough because it works, and because the women who used it told their daughters, who told their daughters, through a century of passed down wisdom that chain pharmacy never understood and never stocked.

Fairview keeps it because our community asks for it by name.

Dr. Mike's clinical commentary
Black and White Ointment represents something important to many of the families I serve, a tradition of self care passed down for generations. From a clinical standpoint the formula is effective for what it is designed to do, fading hyperpigmentation and dark spots. The most important guidance: use it in defined treatment cycles, not indefinitely, and always use sunscreen. Sun exposure is what drives hyperpigmentation. If you are treating dark spots without sun protection, you are fighting uphill.

Can I take this with my prescription medications?

Some heritage products, particularly the iron containing tonics and any product with alcohol, can interact with prescription medications. Is this safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Heritage remedies vary in pregnancy safety. Topical products like Bag Balm and Bactine are generally considered safe. Iron tonics and any product containing alcohol require physician guidance during pregnancy. Before ordering during pregnancy or breastfeeding, please request a free pharmacist consultation so we can review your specific product.

Build the medicine cabinet your family deserves.

Heritage remedies were never meant to stand alone. Most families build out their medicine cabinet across the four sub categories: cough and chest, pain and muscle, tonics, and skin and wound. Combine 3 to 4 products to clear the $50 free shipping threshold.
