Why this still exists at Fairview.
Bag Balm was created in 1899 to soothe the chapped, cracked udders of dairy cows. It worked so well that Vermont farmers started putting it on their own hands. Their wives used it on their heels. Their children used it for chapped lips. Word spread for 125 years, not through advertising, but through the kind of recommendation that happens when something works spectacularly.
The formula is petrolatum and lanolin at a higher concentration than any standard moisturizer, plus 8 hydroxyquinoline as a mild antiseptic. This combination penetrates the thickened, callused, severely damaged skin that mechanics, construction workers, farmers, and nurses develop after years of hard use.
If regular lotion does not touch your dry skin, Bag Balm will.

Bag Balm is the product I recommend to patients who tell me I have tried everything and nothing works on my hands. Standard moisturizers do not penetrate callused, thickened skin. Bag Balm's lanolin petrolatum combination at this concentration does. Apply it to damp skin right after washing. Then the overnight sock or glove trick: apply heavy, cover, sleep. Most people wake up with transformed hands.

Is this safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Heritage remedies vary in pregnancy safety. Topical products like Bag Balm and Bactine are generally considered safe. Iron tonics and any product containing alcohol require physician guidance during pregnancy. Before ordering during pregnancy or breastfeeding, please request a free pharmacist consultation so we can review your specific product.
Build the medicine cabinet your family deserves.
Heritage remedies were never meant to stand alone. Most families build out their medicine cabinet across the four sub categories: cough and chest, pain and muscle, tonics, and skin and wound. Combine 3 to 4 products to clear the $50 free shipping threshold.
